    Plot Outline:
    The Truth Will Change Everything.

Melina Sordino is entering the notoriously difficult time that is the freshman year of high school. She is no average troubled youth, however, for she refuses to utter a word, ever since a party to celebrate the end of 8th grade resulted in a violent encounter for the young girl. Now, ostracized by her schoolmates, alienated from her mother (Elizabeth Perkins) and father (D.B. Sweeney), and feeling entirely alone, she retreats into an interior world. But hope presents itself in the form of empathetic art teacher Mr. Freeman, who accepts Melinda's silence but pushes her towards other means of self-expression. With his aid and understanding, Melinda is able to discover her voice and talent, as well as regain her joy in life. Based on the award-winning novel by Laurie Halse Anderson, this official Sundance selection offers a sensitive portrayal of a hugely important issue, and features a stunning performance by the talented Stewart.

    Kristen Stewart's Role:
Kristen Stewart plays Melinda Sordino. She gets raped by an upperclassman at a party during the summer. After the blurred trauma, she enters high school a selective mute. This is one of Kristen's best performance to date. She delivers a raw and honest performance and conveys with one look, what most actors dream of with a big monologue.

    Kristen Stewart Quotes:
I was thirteen when I did Speak.
    Trivia & Facts
    Filmed in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

The rape scene was originally supposed to take place in the woods. However, shortly before filming, Kristen Stewart discovered she had an allergy to the grass that caused her to rash, so the scene was moved to a car. When she's walking home from the party, there are leaves on her back because that scene was filmed before she learned of the allergy.

Filming was temporarily cut short at the school where certain scenes were shot because of flooding during an especially heavy summer rain.

A downpour during the filming of some outdoor party scenes required the on-the-spot alteration of a few key sequences, including the replacement of some underage extras by miscellaneous crew members. Also, the indoor scene in which Andy Evans (Eric Lively) towels Melinda's (Kristen Stewart) hair dry was a last minute improvisation due to the unexpected rain.

Laurie Halse Anderson, the novel's author appears as the cafeteria worker spooning out mashed potatoes on the first day of school.

Kristen is currently dating Michael Angarano, who co-starred with her in Speak.
